DECORATIVE GRAVEL

Decorative gravel is a popular choice for low cost, low maintenance drives, parking areas and property frontages.

The gravel is available in a range of sizes and pleasing colours. For driveways and vehicle parking areas an angular gravel with a stone size of between 14mm and 20mm is recommended as this better resists movement as vehicles drive over.

Gravel is laid on a well compacted sub-base with a weed barrier membrane between the sub-base and gravel layer.

Decorative gravel surfaces ae permeable to rainwater so additional drainage is not required.

An even more economical option is crushed slate. In areas of heavy vehicle use the plate-like cross section of the slate aggregate makes it more likely to dislodge. Periodic raking may be necessary.
